How do you prepare your children for a long-distance move?

Preparing for a move can be not only exhausting but also stressful. You need to start planning in advance, make a checklist, find a mover, etc. However, it’s not just the adults who get stressed— this can also be a traumatic experience for our children. This largely depends on their age and you need to prepare for this. That is why we have listed a number of advices for you that can help you prepare your children for a long-distance move.

Answer all their questions honestly

Since your children are used to their school, friends and environment in general, the move will have a big impact on this part. Of course, this is not a problem if they are preschoolers, babies or toddlers. If they are already going to school and are teenagers, it will be more difficult. At that age, it’s hard for them to accept that they need to change their environment and adapt to a new one. That is why it is very important that you give your children some information about the move.

You can start by giving some general information. Then let them feel free to ask you anything they want. Some questions can be tricky, but do your best to be completely honest. If you are going to visit your new home, take the children with you. This is likely to help them and they will accept the state of affairs much more easily.

If it happens that you are also not happy with the move, try to hide it from your children. This can happen if you move for work, a death in the family, a divorce or something else. Do your best to hide your negative attitude towards your children and be more positive. This will be helpful in preparing your children for long distance relocation. There’s one more thing you can do to help them accept that you’re moving. If possible, try to postpone your move. This gives your children a little more time to get used to the change. Also, try to spend more time with them during the process. What can be of great use here is hiring Great Movers Houston. You can ask them to pack your belongings – so you can spend more time with your children.

What to do if you have small children

In the event that you have a toddler, a toddler or a baby, you will not have a hard time preparing for the move. This means you don’t have to explain to them why you’re moving and you don’t have to prepare your children for a long-distance move. However, this doesn’t mean you won’t need help for everything else.

Because they are small, they are very active and need your full attention. Therefore, you should ask your friends or family members to come and help you. Plus, be sure to hire moving companies great movers Houston. They will give you advice if you need it. In addition, you can ask them to help you pack or to store some of your belongings there.

How to prepare teenagers?

This is probably the most challenging work for you. Most of them have probably accepted their environment and would not like to see it change. They are familiar with the city and, more importantly, their friends live there. A long-distance move is likely to deter them – they are likely to protest and oppose the move. But in order not to make the situation even worse, you need to be careful.

You will have to talk to them and answer all their questions. Be patient and try to make it clear to them why this is a good choice. Once they accept the current state of affairs, help them pack their room. Give them some advice on how to fold their clothes or how to pack their sports equipment.

If you need to prepare your children for a long-distance move, you need to be patient. This is probably not something that will interest them when they are a bit older. Do your best to understand them and see things from their point of view. It is not easy, but once they accept the move, everything will become much easier. Try to be positive – for example, tell them that they will be able to meet new people. And if you’re moving to a larger city, point out that they’ll have more places to visit. Just give them enough time to adapt to the new state of affairs – after that everything will be easier, Moving services in south holland.

1. Empty the refrigerator

This may seem obvious, but first you need to remove everything from the refrigerator. A week or so before you plan to move, start eating all the chilled foods you don’t necessarily want to take with you. Don’t forget to find storage space for all the things you can’t reach, either by sharing them with someone else or by packing them in a cooler during the move. Then remove the shelves and drawers from the refrigerator.

2. Disconnect water pipes and wiring

The newer a refrigerator, the more technologically advanced it is. If the refrigerator has screens on the inside or an ice or water dispenser, disconnect the water pipes and wiring. Pay special attention to the water pipe.

“It’s usually pretty easy to disconnect the water pipes, but as a mover, we’re a little hesitant to mess around with something that involves water,” says Dennis, a mover. “If it’s not sealed properly, you can do a lot of damage. In some cases, you need a plumber to seal it properly.”

Most movers don’t even touch the wiring or water pipes because of liability issues, says Nick Hoogweg, lead mover at moving company VerhuisGoedkoop. Movers do provide the tools, but often won’t do it themselves.

3. Defrost the refrigerator, if necessary

You don’t necessarily have to defrost your fridge before the move.

“If your refrigerator goes to storage, you have to defrost it,” Misinksi said. “If it’s just a short local move, it depends on the weather if it’s necessary.”

Short means no more than six or eight hours for the entire move. In winter, that won’t be a problem. But in the summer, the refrigerator in the truck will begin to thaw and leak water. If you do need to defrost your refrigerator, make sure you have enough time to do so before the move.

How long should a refrigerator be thawed before it is moved?
A refrigerator can thaw in a few hours, depending on its size, but you need to deal with this proactively so that the refrigerator doesn’t unexpectedly leak into the truck and ruin your stuff. Slide the doors open, fill the empty fridge with old towels, unplug it and leave it for 48 hours. If necessary, change the towels to suck everything up.

4. Remove the doors, if necessary

Once the refrigerator is thawed and dry inside, you’ll likely need to remove the doors, either from the refrigerator or from your home. Pulkkinen notes that newer refrigerators are quite large. Some are larger than a standard door size, and they only get bigger. If you cannot easily maneuver the device out of the door, remove your doors from the hinges.

5. Protect the floors, walls and refrigerator

Especially if you have a rental house, you want to be sure that you put rubber mats on the floor wherever the refrigerator will be placed. Those suckers are really heavy, and can immediately scratch floors — regardless of whether you’re using a four-wheeled dolly (which is preferable) or just pushing it along alone (which you shouldn’t do if you value the device). Shrink the refrigerator to avoid scratches, and hang moving blankets in case you bump into drywall.

6. Physically move the refrigerator with a dolly

According to Hoogweg, you don’t want to move the refrigerator without some form of mechanical assistance – and that help should always be in the form of a dolly/furniture dog.

The first thing you need to do is fill the metal of the cart so that there are no scratches on the refrigerator. Slide the base under the refrigerator and wrap straps around the device to secure it to the base. Then brace the base with your foot so that you can tilt the refrigerator towards you. You will have to repeat this process until you have found the right center of gravity. If you get it right, the refrigerator will evenly tilt back and you can push it forward, holding on to the refrigerator itself instead of the dolly so you don’t get hurt. Keep your eyes on one side of the refrigerator, instead of peeking at both sides during the move. It is best if a second person guides you through this.

7. Secure it in the truck

Once you’ve driven the refrigerator to your truck and put it in, secure it tightly to the wall of the truck with a rope or ratchet tires. Refrigerators have wheels with limited mobility, and you don’t want it rolling over the truck and falling on your expensive coffee table.

Can you put down a refrigerator to move it?
Technically yes, but you certainly don’t want to lay the refrigerator flat to move it.

“There are liquids in the refrigerator’s compressor, and if the refrigerator is tilted or laid flat for extended periods of time, they can migrate to places where they’re not supposed to be,” Pulkkinen said. “It’s not that you can’t do it. But if you do it, you shouldn’t plug it in right away. That way you can burn the compressor through.”

8. Reassemble and connect in the new house

Assuming you’ve first measured the space for the refrigerator in your new abode (and it fits), drive it in. When you lower the refrigerator on the dolly into the new space of your appliance, lower it slowly, using your own weight as a counterweight so that it doesn’t fold down. Reconnect the water pipe and wiring, plug it in and refill the supply with food.

1. Donate or recycle what you don’t need
Before you start packing, go through your clothes, utensils, and furniture and make piles or collections of what you no longer need. Look for services like OfferUp and Facebook Marketplace that allow you to sell furniture or household items locally. Another option? Give them away. I had to cram my big dresser into the back of a friend’s car. Was it easy? Certainly not, but it feels good to know that your stuff is being reused. As for clothes, if they are in good, usable condition, donate them to homeless shelters, Goodwill or the Salvation Army.

If you plan to throw away old appliances or batteries, remind yourself that electronic waste is a terrible burden on the environment. Wecycle is a service that finds the nearest recycling location depending on the type of electronics you want to throw away. You can also check out at your nearest Media market (or other large format electronics stores)- there you can drop off your old phones, chargers and general gadgets and will recycle them for you for free.

2. Wrap fragile objects in clothes and linen
This trick is as old as time, but trust us, it always works. Wrapping spoon holders, ceramic plates and fragile objects in clothing or linens is the perfect replacement for bubble wrap. We often even see customers putting their wine and champagne glasses in winter socks, and they even arrive unscathed on my doormat. Whether it’s towels, blankets or clothes, protect fragile items with what you already have before you buy disposable items.

3. Pack loose items in bins and crates
To figure out how to pack, you need to think a little out-of-the-box — try using crates you already have before you buy moving supplies.

4. Buy eco-friendly, biodegradable stuff
Let’s face it, moving is hard enough in itself. But if you take even one step to make the process more sustainable, it already makes a difference. Although you can arrange 2nd hand boxes yourself or get banana boxes from the supermarket, or moving company also has moving boxes that are reusable!

5. Hire green moving companies
If you need a moving van, look for green moving companies that often use biodiesel instead of conventional gasoline. Moving goods cheap in South Holland.
If you’re moving locally and transporting stuff to your new home, consider options for driving back and forth less to reduce emissions.

There is a lot involved in a move to a new home. And while we often think that packing and unpacking are the only important things that get in the way of fully integrating, it’s actually the things you do after you’ve moved into a new home that make the biggest difference. Getting associated with your home, learning how it functions, and prioritizing what projects you want to tackle is an essential part of your role as a homeowner — and it’s better to do all of this right when you move into your home, rather than waiting and assuming you’ll figure it all out later.

Of course, you already have a lot to do. So to help you get your to-do list in order, we’ve compiled this quick list of the ten most important things to do when moving to a new home. Most of these steps aren’t too time-consuming, but they do require you to consciously strive to perform them. Read on for what you need to know, and then make a plan. Soon, you’ll finally be ready to sit back, open the champagne and celebrate your new home.

Do a walkthrough

There’s no better time to go through your new home completely than when it’s completely empty. So before you put down your furniture and unpack it (and even better, before unloading the moving van – if possible), take a look around. Among other things, you will want to check whether:

All requested and agreed repairs have been carried out by the previous owner
Everything that would be included in the sale is present in the house
Everything is in order, including sockets, switches, and fixtures
If you encounter a problem that violates the sales contract (for example, the previous owner brought the washer and dryer, when they should have left it behind), call your real estate agent immediately to see what your story is. For things that are not in the contract, you are now responsible, but it helps to know what they are.

Child/pet proof (if required)

If you’re moving into a new home with small children (or even furry four-legged children), then a first step is to make the home childproof to keep everyone safe until you can fully furnish the home. Check out our article on how to quickly childproof a home on moving day, with tips like creating a separate, child-free zone for discarded packaging material and checking all the windows to make sure they’re tightly closed and no long hanging cords coming off the blinds. And of course, you need to keep everything that is dangerous – clippers, cleaning agents, glassware and so on – far out of the reach of small hands.

Figure out what needs to go where

You’ll save yourself a ton of time and effort when moving into a new home if you make a plan of action to set everything up instead of just doing it. This is especially true for large and heavy items such as furniture. You probably already have an idea of what should be in which room, but give yourself a moment to think about what you want the décor to look like. Of course, you can make changes later, but if you get started with a general plan, the work becomes a lot easier.

Make sure your utilities are set up

Hopefully you’ve made sure your utilities are ready before you moved into your new home, in which case it’s now time to make sure everything is ready to go and working properly. On moving day, make sure your electricity, gas, water, heating and cooling, phone, and internet are set up. Then call your local waste disposal company to make sure your new home is also ready to pick up trash.

Find the fuse box and the water tap

The fuse box and water faucet are two things you don’t want to look for when you really need them. It’s much better to identify their locations now so that if your power goes out or you need to shut off the water for whatever reason, you’ll be able to find your way there right away. As a rule of thumb, your fuse box is likely to be in your basement, garage, or storage room, while you can usually find your home’s watergate somewhere around the perimeter of your home.

Make a big clean-up

The last thing you’ll probably want to do after the moving process is clean your new home from top to bottom, but just after the move is the best time to do it. Fortunately, we’ve put together a guide on how to thoroughly clean your new home that can help you with this. If you just don’t have the time or desire to put on your cleaning gloves now and grab a mop (and we don’t blame you), consider hiring professional cleaners. Whether you pay in time or in cost, it’s well worth it to start living in your new home in a clean state.

Prioritize repairs

Unless you’re moving into a new home that hasn’t had previous owners, chances are you’ll have some repair projects. You should have a general idea of what these are from your home inspection, but it doesn’t hurt to walk around on your own and get a handle on what needs to be done and what’s at the top of the list in terms of priorities. While you don’t necessarily have to get started with these repairs right away (there will be plenty of time for you to settle down), making a list of what needs to be done and in what order you plan to do it will help you put your repair needs in perspective and give you a better foothold for when it’s really time to get the ball rolling.

Change your locks

It’s always a good idea to replace the locks of your new home. Even if you’re not worried about the previous owner, you never know who might have a key. This is certainly one of those areas where it’s better to err on the side of caution, so schedule a locksmith to come by or, if you feel comfortable doing it, change the locks yourself. Give the locks of all doors that lead from the inside to the outside and of the windows a new key. It’s a small expense for a lot of peace of mind.

Change your address

Perhaps you have already communicated a change of address to the post office before moving day, but if you have not already done so, now is the time. Also, let others know about your move, such as friends and family, subscription services, your bank, lenders, and anyone who regularly sends you correspondence or bills. A full list of who to notify can be found here. If you have moved to a new state, you will also need to contact the Department of Motor Vehicles to arrange a new driver’s license and an updated license plate registration.

Meet your neighbors

Meeting your neighbors is a lot easier — and less embarrassing — to do if you’ve just moved. And in addition to getting off to a good start in your new neighborhood, it’s also helpful to get to know your neighbors and get recommendations for local services (like the aforementioned locksmith) if you need one. You don’t have to go door to door, but introduce yourself when you first meet a new neighbor. With a little kindness you can go a long way.

Moving into a new home is a bit overwhelming by nature, but following the ten steps above can help make the transition a little more seamless. However, there’s a lot involved, so don’t be afraid to ask for help, whether that’s from a friend or family member or from a professional service provider. The sooner you can arrange the big things, the sooner your new home will feel like a new home.

Our top tips for moving your personal library to avoid damaged covers, creases and cracks in your precious titles.

Our bookcases tell a story, from photography hardcovers and textbooks to old classics of family members hanging together with adhesive tape.

You don’t have to be a book collector to have amassed a collection of inspiring or sentimental books that are worth moving into your next home or apartment.

Books are often considered the easiest stuff to pack, but people make some common mistakes that can cause unnecessary heartache while moving and unpacking. The good news is that books are relatively quick to pack if you learn a few hacks.

Piece of Cake moves hundreds of boxes of books every week, and we’ve rounded up our top tips for moving your personal library:

1. Optimize your collection
You hear it repeatedly from us: do not pay to move items that you put away on arrival. Make your spring cleaning before packing and travel a little lighter.
When you clean up your collection, try sorting your books into 3 stacks to ease the process:
1. Keep.
2. Donate.
3. Sell.
The key to efficient packing is not spending time worrying about each item, hence the undecided stack. Nostalgia can be a real time sucker. If you’re not sure, put that tempting title in pile 2 or 3 and come back to it another time.
If you have other family members in your household, ask them to do the same. Have the entire batch of books sorted and sorted out so you only have to donate once. Throughout the Netherlands there are various thrift stores and libraries.
If you discover that one of your books is damaged, it’s best to recycle them.
2. The right materials
Book boxes are often overpacked and are notorious for their weight. For DO-it-yourselfers, they can also pose injury risks if they are not properly packed.
Start with the right materials: that means a thicker cardboard box than standard. You can buy book boxes from the moving company (VerhuisGoedkoop).
Bigger is not better when moving books, the more there is in a box the heavier it is and harder to lift and transport. Small and sturdy is the goal, we recommend 25″ x 25″ x 36″. You’ll also want strong packaging tape to ensure the box is secure and tightly sealed, along with wrapping paper as padding to prevent them from shifting during transport.
If your box is firmly assembled, run the tape from the bottom to halfway down the sides of the box. Then line the bottom of the box with wrapping paper to create a layer between any moisture from the outside and your first layer of books. If you are moving valuable books, you can also line the bottom of the box with bubble wrap, which is also water resistant.
3. How do you pack different types of books?
Now that you’re ready to fill boxes, group the books by size and value. The general rule is that heavier books should be on the bottom and lighter books on top.
If you have rare editions that are a collectible, it’s better to carry them in your moving suitcase than to mix them with the rest of your library during transportation.
If you are packing valuable hardcover books, wrap them separately and place them upright in the box with the backs facing the wall of the box. You can also place a sheet of thick cardboard between each book to protect them from shifting individually. If they are large and heavy books, use several smaller boxes instead of putting another layer of hardcover books on top.
Less expensive books with hard covers can be quickly and safely placed flat in the bottom of the box and stacked on top of each other. Do not place your books with the pages facing the bottom of the box, as the covers may collapse and crease. Some customers also put their books back down at the bottom of the box, but this can lead to damage to the layers above if not done carefully.
Regular paperbacks can be stacked in neat rows, stacking similar sizes on top of each other and filling empty space with wrapping paper. You can mix the stacking methods here, but avoid placing one of them at an angle or tightly pressed, as it will deform during transport.
When packing these categories, provide a buffer between the books and the box if there are any openings, by using crumpled wrapping paper.
4. Final steps
When your box is ready to be sealed, place an extra layer of wrapping paper over the top of your books before closing it. Generously put tape over the seal and then grab your marker and label the box in detail.
If your books are saved, these steps are safe for the short term. For long-term storage, you can replace the wrapping paper with acid-free paper to prevent discoloration over time.
Once you arrive at your destination, unpacking is a breeze. Even young family members can help, as unpacking books is a simple task where you can collapse a few empty boxes fairly quickly and free up some space.
There’s nothing like putting those familiar titles on the bookshelf and feeling like it’s already home.

First, congratulations on your new home!
We have some ideas and useful advice to make your big task easier and simpler; pack, put in boxes and be ready for the move. Here are our guides and advice for relocations. We know exactly, moving is really tiring, complicated and is regularly mentioned as one of the most stressful events in life. We have been in a similar situation several times.

It’s important to do everything you can to make sure it doesn’t become an overwhelming experience.

So sit back, grab a snack and read our tips! 😉
1. Take your time
If you allow yourself enough time, you can set up a schedule that will ensure you set aside enough time to finish each item on your to-do list and gather all the materials you need for your move.

If you start this process as soon as possible, you’ll have time to remove unwanted items so you only take what you need to your new home. You also have time to make a complete inventory of each packaging box to simplify unpacking.

By starting your preparations early, you’ll ensure that you don’t exhaust yourself in an attempt to fit too many tasks into a short period of time. If you want a stress-free move, it’s best to take your time – don’t let it all arrive at the last minute.

2. Be flexible
With so many different parties involved in a move, it won’t always go according to plan, so it’s important to be flexible with changes during this period to limit the stress. Starting your tasks early should give you some breathing room to think about how to temporarily move forward if you do encounter obstacles.

It can be worth having a backup plan and a list of the tasks you need to complete so you can bring other tasks forward if something gets delayed so you can keep your productivity up.

3. Make a document box, move file
Keep all important documents, such as passports, house deeds, wills and insurance papers in one box or file, so you can easily access them. Keep this file in a safe place, in your handbag or purse, where you can easily find it and you will not put it in a box.

It can also be a good idea to make electronic copies of important documents by scanning them and storing them on a computer.

4. Use a relocation checklist
It pays to be organized during this busy period, so take a look at our checklist for a comprehensive guide on what to do and consider, and at what stage you should do them, when you move.

Our checklist will help you keep the entire moving process running smoothly, right down to the moment you’ve moved into your new home.

5. Visit your new surroundings
If you’re moving somewhere you’re not familiar with, visit the neighborhood and take a stroll through the area. This can make the transition to your new home less overwhelming and you can start to feel at home in your new city.

It will also allow you to find the nearest shops so you know where to go to stock up on the necessary stuff for the first few busy days.

HOW TO MOVE A MATTRESS

While the idea of having to move your bulky mattress may seem impossible, we’re here to make it easy for you. As long as you make the right preparations, moving the big stuff in your home is nothing to stress about. Read on for 3 easy steps to move your mattress!

RENT A TRUCK

We do not recommend moving your mattress with an average-sized vehicle or even a truck. Trying to tie a load on a car without experience is extremely dangerous for you and other drivers. You can rent a truck in most states for about $20 a day and this route is much safer.

BUY A MATTRESS COVER

A mattress cover keeps your mattress clean and damage-free during your move. Many other people have used your rental car for you, you will want to make sure it is not exposed to dirt/pollutants while also preventing hooks or cracks. You can pick it up at your local home improvement store or you can order one online from sellers like Amazon.

LOAD IT INTO YOUR TRUCK WITH THE HELP OF A FRIEND

You will need the help of at least one other person to load your mattress into your new home. If you are moving your entire home, we recommend that you load your mattress into the truck before your bed so that upon arrival at your new home you can first unload and set up the bed and then take your mattress and put it on top of the bed!

IN CONCLUSION

Moving a mattress is a fairly simple process, but our expert recommendations are to protect it with a mattress bag and abandon the idea of moving it without a truck. If you want more tips on how to load a truck.

Move. A task that seems so simple, but is anything but. It’s something you need to take seriously and focus on. Each move is unique and different from all the previous ones, and that’s what makes this task so complex. And not to forget – difficult to complete. Especially in a timely efficient way. There are just so many things that need to be taken into account. Every detail is important. Everything needs to be thought about. And the smallest mistakes can cause the biggest problems. That’s just the way it is, and there’s no escaping it. Not if you are planning to move. However, there are a number of things that can make this whole process easier for you. Things like our packing tips!

Ready? Go!

As we’ve said before, moving is a serious task to take on. And it requires a
detailed planning, as well as strategic preparation. All of these things take time. And more than you think. That’s why it’s so important to start on time. Or even better, early. Starting early gives you enough time and space to plan each step. And trust us – you’ll need it!

Phases of planning

Creating a solid strategy is critical. It really is. And for many reasons. But it has to be done well if everything is to run smoothly in the end. And that’s our main goal here. Isn’t it?

Think about everything in advance.
Consider every detail at least twice.
Take a notebook and write everything down.
Follow your schedule, and make sure you finish your tasks on time.

Know what you’re doing.

Because that will help you enormously. Knowing what you’re getting into is more than important. It will allow you to create a better strategy, and more importantly – it will help you pack quickly and efficiently. There are so many packing tips, but you have to keep up with them!

Details are important.

There are no minor problems with a move. Everything is important. And small details can turn into a nightmare in no time. That’s why it’s so important to think twice about everything. This way you get a much better picture of your entire moving project and you ultimately avoid moving errors.

Write everything down.

When it comes to organization, there’s nothing that can help you more than writing everything down. There are just so many things that need to be done. And something can happen, and probably does — that you forget something along the way. So be sure to write down your tasks, ideas, and memories before everything gets out of hand.

Say no to postponing tasks.

If you’re not a morning person – become one. Today. Packing is something that seems easy, but it’s a task that requires your full commitment. And that means only one thing – tasks need to be completed. On time.

Packing tips:
Let’s start at the beginning.
1# Make an inventory
Making such a list sounds like something that will take up a lot of your precious time. Nevertheless, an inventory list is something that can be more than useful when moving house. And since we’re talking about packing, one of our best packing tips for you is to put it all together. It will help you to make the next steps of this process much easier.

2# Sort your belongings
Go through your house (apartment) and start sorting your belongings.
Do you need it?
Do you use it?
How often?
Does it need special care?
Can it be moved?
When it comes to moving, it is very important to make everything simple and easy. And that is why it is so important to determine at an early stage whether you are going to move everything. Ask yourself the following questions. Do you need it? And if so, do you use it? How often? Once you have answered these 3 questions, you can decide whether to move the item in question or not.
Extra packing advice:
If you’ve asked yourself these questions and come to an answer you don’t like – we have a solution for you! Let’s say we’re talking about your grandmother’s antique vase. You got it as a gift. On your wedding day. And yes, it has sentimental value. No, you can’t just throw it away. What you can do is find a storage place where you can store such things! Easy, right?
Tips for packing fragile items:
If an object really needs special care, we recommend that you seek some professional help. In most cases, objects that require special care and are difficult to move are not only fragile. In most cases, they are also objects of high value. And you wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to these objects. So look for a professional moving and packing company that can help you with this task.

3# Say goodbye to the things you don’t really use or need
One of the best packing tips out there is to get rid of all the things you don’t really need. Not only will it help you move with ease, in a timely efficient way, it will also help you save some money. And who doesn’t love that? At least we do! Consider these options:
Sell (yard / online sale)
Donate
Recycling
Need more packing tips? Because we have a few for you!
There are many tips and hacks that make packing easier, and here are a few of our top picks!
You should start packing 3 to 4 weeks before your move or as soon as possible.
When you start packing, start with the things you use the least, such as books, seasonal clothing or sports equipment, and other similar items.
If you’re moving in the summer, make sure you pack the things that are temperature sensitive: soap, candles, etc.
Take the extra time to get rid of clutter you no longer use.
Use good quality cardboard boxes: smaller ones for the heavier stuff and bigger ones for the heavier ones. And don’t pack too much!
Always provide extra packaging material, you never know what you will need.
Lay your books flat in their box, alternating the bindings so that they stack evenly.
Stay organized, pack room by room, and label the boxes accordingly.
Prepare a box for your medication, personal hygiene, pillow etc.
Make copies of important documents such as wills, contracts, and passports.
If you’re taking apart larger items, make sure you put all the nuts and bolts in clearly labeled small bags.
Make sure your dressers and furniture are empty before you move them.
Make an inventory list of items and write down the serial numbers of all electronics.
You must transport frozen products, products, plants and other perishable goods yourself.
Soap, sprays, polishes and medicines should not be put in the same box as food.
Heavy objects should not be packed together with crockery.

Plan your packaging process
1. Determine which boxes will be needed:
Small box:   Files, books, photo frames and other similar possessions;
Medium box:   Shoes, clothes, linen and small kitchen appliances;
Large box:   Blankets, pillows, towels, toys, and pots/pans;
Dish pack box:   Ideal for fragile objects such as plates, glassware, vases, trays…;
2. 2. Make sure you’re organized:
Label boxes as you pack.
Create your own inventory list of important items in each box. This helps you keep track of your boxes in case one gets lost or misplaced.
Use your personal inventory list as a reference guide when unpacking.
