Packing tips from our moving company

Move. A task that seems so simple, but is anything but. It’s something you need to take seriously and focus on. Each move is unique and different from all the previous ones, and that’s what makes this task so complex. And not to forget – difficult to complete. Especially in a timely efficient way. There are just so many things that need to be taken into account. Every detail is important. Everything needs to be thought about. And the smallest mistakes can cause the biggest problems. That’s just the way it is, and there’s no escaping it. Not if you are planning to move. However, there are a number of things that can make this whole process easier for you. Things like our packing tips!

Ready? Go!

As we’ve said before, moving is a serious task to take on. And it requires a
detailed planning, as well as strategic preparation. All of these things take time. And more than you think. That’s why it’s so important to start on time. Or even better, early. Starting early gives you enough time and space to plan each step. And trust us – you’ll need it!

Phases of planning

Creating a solid strategy is critical. It really is. And for many reasons. But it has to be done well if everything is to run smoothly in the end. And that’s our main goal here. Isn’t it?

Think about everything in advance.
Consider every detail at least twice.
Take a notebook and write everything down.
Follow your schedule, and make sure you finish your tasks on time.

Know what you’re doing.

Because that will help you enormously. Knowing what you’re getting into is more than important. It will allow you to create a better strategy, and more importantly – it will help you pack quickly and efficiently. There are so many packing tips, but you have to keep up with them!

Details are important.

There are no minor problems with a move. Everything is important. And small details can turn into a nightmare in no time. That’s why it’s so important to think twice about everything. This way you get a much better picture of your entire moving project and you ultimately avoid moving errors.

Write everything down.

When it comes to organization, there’s nothing that can help you more than writing everything down. There are just so many things that need to be done. And something can happen, and probably does — that you forget something along the way. So be sure to write down your tasks, ideas, and memories before everything gets out of hand.

Say no to postponing tasks.

If you’re not a morning person – become one. Today. Packing is something that seems easy, but it’s a task that requires your full commitment. And that means only one thing – tasks need to be completed. On time.

Packing tips:
Let’s start at the beginning.
1# Make an inventory
Making such a list sounds like something that will take up a lot of your precious time. Nevertheless, an inventory list is something that can be more than useful when moving house. And since we’re talking about packing, one of our best packing tips for you is to put it all together. It will help you to make the next steps of this process much easier.

2# Sort your belongings
Go through your house (apartment) and start sorting your belongings.
Do you need it?
Do you use it?
How often?
Does it need special care?
Can it be moved?
When it comes to moving, it is very important to make everything simple and easy. And that is why it is so important to determine at an early stage whether you are going to move everything. Ask yourself the following questions. Do you need it? And if so, do you use it? How often? Once you have answered these 3 questions, you can decide whether to move the item in question or not.
Extra packing advice:
If you’ve asked yourself these questions and come to an answer you don’t like – we have a solution for you! Let’s say we’re talking about your grandmother’s antique vase. You got it as a gift. On your wedding day. And yes, it has sentimental value. No, you can’t just throw it away. What you can do is find a storage place where you can store such things! Easy, right?
Tips for packing fragile items:
If an object really needs special care, we recommend that you seek some professional help. In most cases, objects that require special care and are difficult to move are not only fragile. In most cases, they are also objects of high value. And you wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to these objects. So look for a professional moving and packing company that can help you with this task.

3# Say goodbye to the things you don’t really use or need
One of the best packing tips out there is to get rid of all the things you don’t really need. Not only will it help you move with ease, in a timely efficient way, it will also help you save some money. And who doesn’t love that? At least we do! Consider these options:
Sell (yard / online sale)
Donate
Recycling
 Need more packing tips? Because we have a few for you!
There are many tips and hacks that make packing easier, and here are a few of our top picks!
You should start packing 3 to 4 weeks before your move or as soon as possible.
When you start packing, start with the things you use the least, such as books, seasonal clothing or sports equipment, and other similar items.
If you’re moving in the summer, make sure you pack the things that are temperature sensitive: soap, candles, etc.
Take the extra time to get rid of clutter you no longer use.
Use good quality cardboard boxes: smaller ones for the heavier stuff and bigger ones for the heavier ones. And don’t pack too much!
Always provide extra packaging material, you never know what you will need.
Lay your books flat in their box, alternating the bindings so that they stack evenly.
Stay organized, pack room by room, and label the boxes accordingly.
Prepare a box for your medication, personal hygiene, pillow etc.
Make copies of important documents such as wills, contracts, and passports.
If you’re taking apart larger items, make sure you put all the nuts and bolts in clearly labeled small bags.
Make sure your dressers and furniture are empty before you move them.
Make an inventory list of items and write down the serial numbers of all electronics.
You must transport frozen products, products, plants and other perishable goods yourself.
Soap, sprays, polishes and medicines should not be put in the same box as food.
Heavy objects should not be packed together with crockery.

Plan your packaging process
1. Determine which boxes will be needed:
Small box:   Files, books, photo frames and other similar possessions;
Medium box:   Shoes, clothes, linen and small kitchen appliances;
Large box:   Blankets, pillows, towels, toys, and pots/pans;
Dish pack box:   Ideal for fragile objects such as plates, glassware, vases, trays…;
2. 2. Make sure you’re organized:
Label boxes as you pack.
Create your own inventory list of important items in each box. This helps you keep track of your boxes in case one gets lost or misplaced.
Use your personal inventory list as a reference guide when unpacking.
